One Day at a Time

The reference pic for this ink and watercolor sketch I did reminded me of Bushnell and all the wonderful years we had a place there. I just acted like my mom and gave the picture a kiss.

Vic and I had a good walk this morning. The weather the past few days has been fantastic. It’s cool, high 60s low 70s, it’s sunny, there’s a slight breeze, just perfect. We headed west out of the front door and circled around a few blocks ending up at the corner bodega for a couple packs of tortillas before home and breakfast.

Days like these make me impatient for the trike to arrive. We are so blessed. Johnny and Tina have paid for the lion’s share of getting us a 3-wheel, 2-seat bike that we can use to get around. Mostly I’m excited at the prospect of us taking trips up and down and lakefront together. Vic can no longer ride a bike and we miss being able to go out to the parks and see the water. We could take the car, and we do sometimes, but it’s not the same as the bike path and the cool breeze off the water, the sun in your face. I figure we’ll have all of August, September, and a lot of October to use the bike before it’s too cold.

Two small worries:

1) Before I ordered the bike, before I even asked for help from our family, I showed Vic pictures of a couple of different trikes. I thought he might hesitate at the idea of riding in the back as I steer us around. But he was positive, so I thought, great.

I sent out a call for financial help and it came quick, so I ordered the trike that I thought was the best in terms of build and power. I was talking to Vic about the best one as I was about to order it and he asked what I was doing. I showed him the picture of the trike from the Amazon page and he seemed surprised. I was confused. I was like, remember I showed you several pictures, I’ve talked about all the things we could do with a 2-seater trike. I talked about it excitedly for a few days, trying to figure out how we could afford it, etc etc.

He still seemed confused. Maybe he kinda remembered, maybe he didn’t quite process it. I know if I talk too quickly about things he often won’t process the whole conversation, but to forget all of it?

Anyway, he was kinda surprised. Maybe he just didn’t think I could get it together, or that we could get help so quickly. Not sure as sometimes it is also hard for him to explain what’s going on with his thinking, and then he might act as if he didn’t forget.

Which I get; he is afraid of forgetting things, I am afraid of him forgetting things we are doing or things we discussed and for the most part he doesn’t forget. Sometimes, he even remembers things we need to do better than I do. So, this was concerning, but he seems happy enough now, so I think it’s ok.

2) Before buying, I measured the freight elevator to see if it was big enough to load the trike in. I need to store it in the basement. It will just fit in the freight elevator with some jostling.

The problem is, the day after I ordered the trike, the freight elevator broke, and it’s been broken now for about a week.

The front passenger elevators have been having problems and we’ve hired elevator repairmen. They shut down one of the front passenger elevators for a month or two as they put in a new motor up on the tenth floor and new electrical, etc. Now the newly fixed one is working and they have closed off the other passenger elevator and are redoing it.

All that to say, I don’t think the freight elevator in the back is top priority in the repair roster. It took a long time for them to get the first front passenger elevator going so who knows how long it will take to get the second front elevator going, and when they will finally have time to look at the freight elevator.

Meanwhile, there is no way this trike will fit in the one working passenger elevator, so I’ll have to figure something out. Not only do I need a place to store it when it arrives, but I will immediately need a place where I can put it together. It comes 85% done and I have to figure the last 15% out myself. I am not a bikesmith, but I read that there are YouTube videos to help.

Help! Help! Ha. I will figure it out.

That’s all the news fit to report. Take a walk. It’s beautiful outside.
